Power capacitors for medium-frequency furnaces is an induction heating device that uses a medium-frequency power supply, widely applied in industrial fields such as metal smelting, heating, and heat treatment.
During operation, it requires stable reactive power compensation to improve power factor and reduce energy consumption. Power capacitors for medium-frequency furnaces are key components specifically designed for this scenario, responsible for reactive power compensation, voltage stabilization, and improving power grid quality.
The induction coil (load) in an MF furnace is inductive, generating significant reactive power during operation, which lowers the power factor (COSφ, typically 0.2–0.6). Power capacitors provide capacitive reactive power to offset inductive reactive power, raising the power factor above 0.9, reducing line losses, and improving grid efficiency.
Medium frequency power supplies (such as thyristor or IGBT inverters) require resonance matching with the load (induction coil + capacitor) to operate at the optimal frequency, enhancing energy conversion efficiency.
Series Resonance: Capacitors are connected in series with the induction coil, suitable for high-voltage, high-current applications (e.g., melting furnaces).
Parallel Resonance: Capacitors are connected in parallel with the induction coil, suitable for high-power stable output (e.g., quenching equipment).
Medium frequency inverters generate high-order harmonics during operation. Capacitors absorb some harmonic currents, reducing interference with the grid and other equipment.
● Excellent high-frequency performance
Standard power frequency capacitors (50/60Hz) cannot withstand the high-frequency losses (1kHz–10kHz). MF capacitors use low-loss dielectric materials (such as metallized polypropylene film, MKP) to minimize heat generation and improve stability.
●
MF furnaces operate at high voltages (500V–3000V) and large currents (hundreds to thousands of amps). Capacitors must have high voltage ratings (e.g., 1000V, 1500V, 2000V) and strong overload capacity.
●
In high-frequency environments, the capacitor's ESR must be sufficiently low; otherwise, excessive heat may cause failure.
●
High-power MF capacitors often use water-cooling or air-cooling to ensure long-term stable operation.
●
Self-healing design (metallized film): Automatically repairs minor breakdowns, extending service life.
Resistant to high temperatures, moisture, and vibration, suitable for industrial environments.
